Growth of Civilian Defense Activity in Western Washington
As reflected by web site proliferation and growth of several area/county based armed civilian defense groups since May of 2009, growth has been astounding. One of the seminal events was the alleged coerced closing of a national militia website due to a visit to the site owner by federal agents. Several postings I have seen suggest the owner over-reacted. None the less, if it was the feds intent to suppress expression by the members of that web site it completely backfired. A new website sprang up within days and is now very large and far more active than its predecessor. Training activity has rapidly grown in terms of frequency and participants. There is even a plan to stage a state wide social meeting and deer hunt near Montesano, WA. in October. In clear contrast, one of the saner and even handed organizations, KISSATA, has seen a dramatic decrease in activity as reflected by the number of posts on its discussion forum (www.kissta.com),and (http://mscg.yuku.com/) and the number of identifiable adherents in the western half of the state. At present I can only identify 3, maybe 4 active posters and trainers as opposed to about 20 in May,2009. Until that time western Washington was the most active KISSATA area in the nation. This is a shame, as the KISSATA concept represents the ideal for the development of community based civilian defense organization. Hopefully this change merely represents some poor decision making on the part of KISSATA "leaders", and not a paradigm shift to a less thoughtful and effective approach to the civilian defense concept.
