State Defense Force
An acquaintance recently announced on a "militia" web site that he had decided to join the Washington State Guard. The WNG is an official state government militia, largely composed of military veterans and designed to fill in for the Washington National Guard and provide support services to the community in the event of need. The depth of experience in the ranks strongly suggests they would also function as a training cadre in the event the state governor calls out the unorganized militia. The response from what I call the tin foil hat crowd was depressingly negative. The active paranoia and evident lack of capacity or willingness to objectively assess the conspiracy theories that are so often slung about the net is wholly counter-productive. To my friend, I say congratulations on making a wise decision.
